Senior Tax Associate

Job Description

The ideal candidate will possess extensive tax experience, a strategic mindset, and excellent communication skills.

Job Duties:

• Oversee tax compliance processes, including extensions, estimates, and tax returns, in coordination with internal accounting teams and external tax advisors.
• Calculate tax gains on asset sales and manage requirements for Section 1031 like-kind exchanges.
• File monthly and quarterly NY Sales tax returns for five hotel entities based in New York City.
• Monitor multi-year tax projections, using reforecast financials quarterly, for the company’s REITs to ensure appropriate dividend coverage for taxable income distribution requirements.
• Ensure quarterly and annual REIT compliance tests are satisfied across the company’s REITs.
• Calculate quarterly tax accrual entries for REIT and TRS entities.
• Address tax notices from all jurisdictions to ensure proper credits and payments are applied.
• Periodically review sub-lease agreements between Taxable REIT Subsidiaries (TRS’s) and hotel fee owners in the REIT portfolios.
• Manage and coordinate tax audits of income tax, sales & use tax, franchise tax, etc.
• Calculate periodic taxable income estimates for various JV partners.
• Prepare W-9s, POAs, and other simple tax forms for requesting vendors.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of tax experience at a large or regional CPA firm or real estate company.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Real Estate Finance/Tax. CPA and/or a master’s in tax is preferred but not required.
• Strong proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $115,000.00 per year
