HireIQ’s client is a private family office, a New York-based owner-operator and developer, is seeking an experienced Senior Property Accountant to join its Manhattan office.
About the role of Senior Property Accountant
Our client is looking for a detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive professional with a strong background in real estate accounting. The ideal candidate will oversee financial operations across a diverse portfolio, including shopping centres, retail spaces, office buildings, and parking garages. This role requires independent problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities of the Senior Property Accountant:
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for shopping centres, retail spaces, and garages.
- Maintain general ledgers, ensuring accurate and timely reconciliations.
- Monitor cash flow, review financial variances, and assist with forecasting.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Assist in developing annual budgets and multi-year financial projections for properties.
- Work with property and asset managers to assess leasing activity and operating expenses.
- Review operating expense reconciliations for tenants and ensure compliance with lease agreements.
Accounting Operations & Compliance:
- Oversee AP & AR processes, including vendor payments and tenant billing
- Manage mortgage payments, escrow accounts, and loan reporting
- Ensure accurate recording of property expenses, tax obligations, and depreciation schedules
- Handle financial submissions for lender reporting and compliance requirements
Audit & Risk Management:
- Prepare year-end audit documentation and liaise with external auditors.
Process Improvement & Systems Management:
- Utilize Yardi Voyager for financial reporting and accounting functions.
- Identify efficiencies in accounting workflows to improve reporting accuracy and timeliness.
- Support special projects related to acquisitions, capital improvements, and lease structuring.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Pro-active problem solver
- Property Accounting experience (5 years minimum)
- Proficiency in Yardi Voyager, Excel and financial reporting tools
- Experience managing financial operations for retail outlets
- Ability to analyze complex financial data and provide meaningful insights.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
