With a focus on empowering young people, delivering essential services across Northern Ireland. Due to continued development and organisational needs, they are recruiting a Senior Finance Officer to strengthen the Corporate Services Team.

About the Job

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Services, you will take ownership of day-to-day financial management and work closely with outsourced finance partner. You will ensure financial processes run smoothly, support payroll, budgeting and forecasting, and maintain oversight of contracts, procurement, and compliance. You will also supervise one part-time Finance Officer.

Key Responsibilities Day-to-Day Financial Management

  • Support and manage the Finance Officer to maintain effective finance processes
  • Implement and improve finance systems where required
  • Ensure clear communication of financial information across the organisation
  • Manage organisational credit cards and Equals Money, ensuring timely monthly returns
  • Maintain Purchase, Project, and Nominal Ledgers
  • Ensure supplier invoices are processed and paid on time

Financial Oversight & Reporting

  • Act as the main liaison with the external finance partner for payroll and management accounts
  • Assist with monthly payroll, ensuring legal compliance for SSP, SMP, Tax, NI and pensions
  • Review monthly management accounts and financial reports
  • Monitor income/expenditure vs. budgets and forecasts
  • Support annual budgeting and periodic reforecasting
  • Meet with Managers and SMT monthly to review financials
  • Manage business banking
  • Respond to payroll enquiries from staff and external stakeholders

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure full compliance with charity finance regulations and funder requirements
  • Support preparation of year-end accounts and work with auditors
  • Maintain accurate financial documentation for audit and reporting
  • Review and ensure adherence to internal financial policies and procedures

Grants & Fund Management

  • Monitor restricted and unrestricted funds and ensure accurate reporting
  • Support funding applications with financial information and costings
  • Prepare financial reports required by funders
  • Support SMT with funding returns as needed

Management

  • Conduct monthly supervision with finance team members
  • Manage team performance and encourage staff development
  • Hold fortnightly team meetings
  • Contribute to organisational performance tools, such as the Balanced Scorecard

Learning and Development

  • Engage in continuous professional development
  • Participate in monthly supervision and team meetings
  • Maintain and update individual and team learning plans
  • Support induction of new finance staff

Governance

  • Comply with policies, GDPR requirements and conduct standards
  • Ensure accurate recording and secure storage of financial information
  • Maintain quality standards across all financial processes
  • Promote Charity ethos, values, and organisational objectives

Other Duties

  • Undertake additional duties as required to support effective service delivery
  • Adapt to organisational needs while prioritising the needs of young people

Your Skills & ExperienceEssential

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a finance environment and a financial qualification
    OR 4 years’ experience in a finance environment
  • Experience with purchase ledger and sales ledger
  • Knowledge of financial accounting systems (Xero/QuickBooks preferred)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desirable

  • 2+ years’ finance experience within the charitable sector
