Job Title: Property Accountant

Location: Long Island, NY

The chosen candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring precise financial reporting and delivering valuable financial insights to both management and clients.

Responsibilities:

Daily:

  • Address tenant billing inquiries promptly and efficiently.
  • Record daily cash transactions using Yardi software.
  • Review and confirm deposit postings.
  • Undertake ad-hoc projects and analyses as directed by management.

Weekly:

  • Manage cash positions for Accounts Payable (AP) selection and distributions.
  • Reconcile bank accounts.
  • Prepare weekly expense forecasts.
  • Monitor rent collections aligned with monthly mortgage payment dates.
  • Coordinate with the Collections department for timely rent collection.

Monthly:

  • Prepare monthly management reports.
  • Reconcile and oversee bank accounts, escrows, tenant security, and general ledger accounts.
  • Post-adjusting journal entries for mispostings, accruals, etc.
  • Generate financial statements such as Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Trial Balance.
  • Accurately process rent billing.
  • Review leases to ensure all eligible chargebacks are accounted for.
  • Analyze month-to-month billing comparison reports.
  • Review and approve sundries, late fees, etc.
  • Manage sales tax returns.
  • Conduct month-end closings for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
  • Verify general ledger against cash reports for accuracy.
  • Maintain utility logs for each property for timely payment and expense analysis.

Annually:

  • Assist in preparing property budgets.
  • Collaborate with the Leasing Department to review current and projected leases for revenue forecasting.
  • Coordinate with the Operations Department to review prior year expenses for expense forecasting.
  • Provide external accountants with necessary workpapers and research inquiries for year-end audits.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting
  • Essential experience in the real estate industry.
  • Proficient knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective leadership abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
