Job Description
This role requires a seasoned professional with extensive accounting experience in managing industrial properties, excellent attention to detail, and strong communication skills.
Job Duties:
- Oversee the daily operations of the accounting team, including training, instructing, and developing staff.
- Collaborate with the Asset Management team to analyze lease terms.
- Engage in the preparation and review of lease abstracts for tenant leases.
- Review and approve the setup of new leases and amendments/renewals to existing leases.
- Conduct lease audits to ensure accurate billing.
- Manage and assist in maintaining rent rolls and forecasting future income.
- Monitor lease expirations and communicate updates with the Asset Management team.
- Participate in the preparation and review of billings for reimbursable expenses and year-end reconciliations.
- Support the Asset Management team in budgeting and tracking tenant refurbishments and improvements, ensuring deadlines and landlord obligations are met.
- Contribute to the preparation and review of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Engage in quarterly reviews and annual audits as needed.
- Review, evaluate, and document internal controls over accounting transactions.
- Assist in the processing of real estate tax payments, sales, and use tax returns, and oversee regulatory audits.
- Provide information for all U.S. Federal and State income tax filings.
- Liaise with other accounting personnel, property managers, asset managers, joint venture partners, and the executive team.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities, including special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years experience in commercial property accounting, specifically industrial properties.
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
- Preferred experience in public accounting and/or CPA designation.
- Significant managerial and supervisory experience.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Extensive experience with MRI, Yardi, and/or other real estate accounting software.
- Proficiency in reading and abstracting commercial lease documents.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to excel in a dynamic work environment.
- A strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and manage a team.
- Ability to multi-task and manage a challenging workload while consistently meeting deadlines.
