Job Description: Construction Controller
Location: New York, NY
Reports to: CFO
Position Type: Full-Time
Position Summary:
The Construction Controller will oversee all financial operations related to our construction projects and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This role reports directly to the CFO and will manage a team of 6 accounting professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management:
- Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Manage all aspects of the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
- Develop and implement financial controls and procedures to ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Construction Accounting:
- Manage job costing, project accounting, and revenue recognition.
- Review and analyze construction project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Monitor project expenses and ensure alignment with budgetary constraints.
- Oversee the preparation of draw requests and coordination with project managers for billing and collections.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of 6 accounting professionals.
- Provide guidance and support to ensure team members meet their goals and develop professionally.
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify opportunities for training and development.
- Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior management and stakeholders.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist in the development of financial models and forecasts to support strategic planning.
- Compliance and Audit:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
- Coordinate and manage annual audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records for audit purposes.
- Ad-hoc Projects and Duties:
- Participate in special projects and initiatives as required by the CFO.
- Collaborate with other departments to support overall business objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a construction accounting role.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, job costing, and project financial management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
