Accounts Payable Team Lead

About the Role:

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Accounts Payable Team Lead looking to oversee a dynamic AP team while contributing to streamlined financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable (AP) Management:

  • Supervise the daily operations of the AP Payments team, leading a staff of 3–5 employees.
  • Verify invoices and expense reports for accuracy and ensure proper coding within the AP system.
  • Reconcile vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, and maintain organized AP records.
  • Oversee the annual 1099 process, ensuring accurate vendor reporting and regulatory compliance.
  • Address high-priority issues promptly while maintaining efficiency in day-to-day operations.
  • Keep AP process documentation updated and readily available.

Reporting and Compliance:

  • Generate and manage AP reports, including aging reports, workflow metrics, and outstanding payables.
  • Support internal and external audit processes, ensuring all documentation is complete.
  • Monitor internal controls to ensure adherence to policies and regulatory standards.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Train and mentor AP team members, set performance goals, and provide regular evaluations.
  • Cultivate a collaborative and professional work environment.

Vendor and Cross-Team Collaboration:

  • Build and maintain strong vendor relationships, ensuring smooth communication and problem resolution.
  • Collaborate with accounting and property management teams to achieve financial objectives.

Strategic Support:

  • Provide insights and analysis to improve AP workflows and optimize processes.
  • Work with senior leadership to implement best practices and drive efficiencies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounts payable management experience.
  • Proficiency in Yardi is REQUIRED—this is a critical component of the role.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and property management accounting principles.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a proven track record of team leadership.
