Senior Construction Forensic Accountant / Surety Consultant

Location: Suffolk County, NY (Hybrid)

Salary: $110,000–$150,000

About the Opportunity

Their team works alongside some of the country’s leading surety companies, insurance carriers, attorneys, and contractors to resolve complex construction disputes and performance bond claims.

This is an opportunity to join a highly specialized niche within the construction industry where you’ll combine technical accounting expertise with project analysis, forensic investigations, and construction consulting.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform forensic accounting analyses on complex construction projects.
  • Review contractor financial statements, job cost reports, WIP schedules, and cash flow.
  • Analyze payment and performance bond claims.
  • Prepare cost-to-complete analyses and evaluate contractor financial exposure.
  • Review change orders, contract billings, subcontractor pay applications, and project accounting records.
  • Assist with litigation support, expert reports, and claims analysis.
  • Work directly with surety companies, legal counsel, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Participate in construction project completion efforts following contractor default.
  • Prepare clear financial reports and recommendations for clients.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA preferred (or actively pursuing).
  • 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
  • Surety consulting
  • Forensic accounting
  • Construction claims consulting
  • Construction accounting
  • Public accounting with significant construction clients
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Job costing
  • WIP schedules
  • Percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Construction contracts
  • Cash flow forecasting
  • Cost-to-complete analysis
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical and communication abilities.

Highly Preferred

Experience working with:

  • Surety companies
  • Construction claims
  • Bond claims
  • Litigation support
  • Construction dispute resolution
  • Expert witness engagements
