About the Opportunity

A highly respected engineering and consulting firm is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting function in a project-based, ACEC-aligned environment. This is a senior, hands-on role partnering closely with the CFO and executive leadership, with broad ownership across financial reporting, compliance, and operational support.

The Role

As Controller, you’ll own the full accounting operation while acting as a strategic advisor to leadership. You’ll oversee day-to-day accounting, lead audits and close cycles, support project managers, and mentor a high-performing accounting team—all while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting functions including billing, A/R, A/P, G/L, payroll, cost accounting, and revenue recognition
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Ensure compliance with FAR, GAAP, and industry regulations
• Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits
• Partner with the CFO on financial strategy, planning, and risk management
• Prepare executive and Board-level financial reporting
• Lead, develop, and mentor accounting staff
• Support project managers with budgeting, forecasting, job costing, and margin analysis
• Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Manage indirect rates and prepare overhead submissions to State and Local agencies
• Partner with HR and operations on payroll, benefits, and tax compliance

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
• 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in leadership
• 3+ Years Experience with Deltek VantagePoint
• Background in engineering, architecture, or environmental consulting
• Strong knowledge of project accounting, FAR, and indirect cost rates
• Proven people leader with hands-on operational ownership
